Audible: Audio Entertainment App Reviews

Post your iOS & iPhone model with your reviews, people!! This is not so hard is it?!? Your reviews arent just for feedback. Theyre also for the rest of us, but guess what... Your reviews are next to USELESS unless we at least know which iOS youre using. [/rant] Anyway... I use Audible ALL the time! I basically never remove the headphones (seriously, since Apr 2014, I racked up > 7 months of listening... and very few problems with the app). Its so much easier for me to get to the books I want to read if I can listen to them while getting work done! Its perfect for lab work, driving, and any other activity that allows for the mind to wander. Through all versions I’ve used, there’s been nearly glitch-free functionality. When I do encounter issues, I find theyre very often resolved in the next update. Updates have also often included changes reflecting [reviews / feedback / suggestions]—nice to know Audible’s customer support is listening (& continually trying to improve)… unlike some Corp’s I can think of. For example, in the latest update, the new "clips" feature was fixed with the reinstatement of timestamps (thanks!). There are a couple of things that I’d like to change, like switching some buttons on/off the main screen instead of menu screen (e.g. I’d replace the “chapters” button with the main “bookmarks” menu button). Of course, I’d like it if the Audible book selection was more expansive, but it’s pretty darn good and always improving. Now if theyd just find some poor sucker to read textbooks, then Id be set :). iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.1 Note: I generally wait to make major iOS updates until some of the kinks are ironed out, which may be part of the reason Ive rarely had troubles with apps like Audible.

Still not having new purchases show up in the app. Epic fail. Another star gone. Third times the charm. Took way another star. Have to delete app and reinstall to get new content to show up. FIX IT. Long time Audible lover and big time every day user, however I just took away another star. Every time I add a new book, I have to totally delete the app, and then download the app again to get the new books to show up in my library. Its getting annoying. Plus the mobile store will not let you sort by the release date most of the time. All you can get it to do is sort by Best Selling, making the app useless for frequent buyers. I want to see NEW books, not a rehash of old releases. As I result I am using the full web site in my iPhone browser rather than the Mobile version. This is soooo unlike Amazon. Please fix it.

If only Audible will allow its customers the feature to create Folders as Bookshelves so people like me can assign books to these folders and tidy the main bookshelf. The "To-Read", the "Already Read", the "Read & to re-read" Bookshelves. Or something like "For Kids", "Min", "Hers". Or by Genres. The possibilities are Almaty endless. Itll also be great if we can have passwords to limit access to certain folders. Youre welcome.

The page that should show my listening stats is broken and none of the numbers show up correctly... There are also duplicated entries (e.g. Same date showing up three three times, "April" showing up five times).

Wow! Audible actually listened to user complaints this update! Thank you for putting back the time that a bookmark was set! It has helped a lot to find the place where I left off. Much appreciated! Now, just put the ability to bookmark back on the front page, and all will be happy in many of our "audible worlds!" I dont use the narration speed feature, and I dont see many people who do use it occasionally, needing it on the front page! Bookmarks however, are used by those of us who are falling asleep as we listen, or need to stop listening suddenly, and want to make sure their places are saved! Please, please??? One last thing, and this is to those who keep complaining about not being able to purchase books through this app. THIS IS NOT AUDIBLES FAULT!! It is Apples, and I assume its because of iTunes, and the competition between the two companies. Apple doesnt want to make it too easy for Audible (Amazon) users to buy things that Apple also sells. Think about it!!

Update: Phew. Problem seems to be solved. So glad. They almost lost me over that bugaboo. 4 stars because I see ways they could simplify and improve, but instead over time they just seem to be complicating but not necessarily improving. Original review: Dont get me wrong, I love Audible. What has me all in a dither is a recent bug that has developed within the application. I have hundreds of Audible books so I know of what I speak. It keeps losing my place within the book. If I get a telephone call while listening, for instance, it quite often but not always will go back to where I originally started listening in that session--not to where the call occurred. This also happens when I pop out and back into the app when I need to access other apps on my phone. Grrrr! Please fix, Audible! Im tired of trying to relocate my last listened to location!

How hard is it to not reset the finished status for the 200 books in my library? Just cancelled my 8 year membership as the app just continues to get worse and worse.

The updates have improved an already useful app. Bookmarks and the sleep timer are my fave.

I still hate the change where it always opens in cloud view. I preferred that it pick up in my previous book location. The cloud view always takes 20 seconds to load which is so annoying.

Update: iOS 9.3.1 Do much Bluetooth testing? I use this in my car frequently and ran into forward and back hiccups that didnt jump one 15 sec internal but repeated until the beginning of the book. And couldnt stop it. Still tired of being prompted to connect to a wifi network. Please can we opt out of whisper-sync? Clips/notes an overly complicated bookmark option. Hate it. Just want a simple bookmark since the app often forgets where I stopped listening and runs to the last bookmark - yes, even when kept running. I just want a simple app that plays back books flawlessly. Like this app used to years ago. ------- Used to be this app played audio books. Now with every release, with a seemingly unending list of unnecessary features, the product owner has lost track of its primary function. Playback audio. Stop playback. Resume playback where you left off. This latest version skips back to prior chapters suddenly, can fade out audio arbitrarily, and takes too long to start playback if a connection to its Whispersync server is not available. People who use one device dont really need Whispersync folks. Make it an option. Ive many years of service with audible and many books. Really, back to basics please and make dead sure your app performs its primary function flawlessly.

Im glad the time stamp was returned to clips/bookmarks. I still dont love the idea of clips, and wish it stayed as it was, but its nice that audible listened to its customers and fixed the time issue. Thank you

I had only bad experience using this app

Another update, same complaints. We got clips and channels last round but neither floats my boat. I want one click access to the sleep timer and to be able to purchase books in app. Am I the only one out there who thinks these are two obviously needed, but always absent, features? In app purchases, easier way to get to sleep time options (shouldnt require three clicks) and account info syncing across devices, please. -- that was my last update. Still no #1, #2 is better and #3 happened but made me lose rankings. Still love this app and how easy it makes it for me to get reading done.

Please fix. So annoying. I have to constantly reopen the app. Because it crashes constantly!!!

I love this app and use it every day. But its been upgraded twice since a convenient sleep timer button in the main page was buried in a series of steps. Once you start the sleep timer it appears conveniently on the page and can be modified easily. Sadly, when the set time runs out, it vanishes instead of remaining available for future use. I know there have been complaints from others but still no return of the button. Sleepy people listening to books, as I do on many nights, are unlikely to follow all the steps before they nod off. Annoying. Fans are also waiting to have a way to organize books in folders or bookshelves. The categories Audible uses to market these books would be a start but customizable files would be better. Your best customers are the least likely to enjoy having all their books in a heap: they have too many titles to run through looking for one volume. Finally, something happened after the last revision: now downloads routinely freeze part way through and must be deleted and restarted.

I don’t browse Audible.com from the app and I only use books that are downloaded to my phone. So it was a real shock to find out that Audible was still burning through cellular data while I listened to books. It also background refreshed. So…yeah. It might be a good idea to turn cellular off in my case, as well as to fully close out of the app when you’re done.

Never thought Id say this but the windows phone version of this is significantly better. The iOS version is very limiting and extremely unintuitive.
